Gel Polish Kit

A modern girl should look stunning to the tips of the nails. That is why now it has become a necessity to be able to independently apply makeup and do manicures at a professional level. In stores of cosmetics, tools and materials that previously were considered exclusively professional began to appear everywhere. Therefore, you need to carefully understand how to choose the perfect kit for applying gel polish, without losing anything and without spending extra money.

What you need for manicure

The question of what is still needed for applying gel polish is a rather controversial topic. For beginners there is one very valuable advice: do not rush to buy everything at once. First you need to purchase a minimum set of necessary tools and materials, and then buy the rest of the little things that make the process easier.

The simplest starter kit for gel polish, as a rule, consists of the following components:

  1. LED or UF lamp;
  2. Degreaser, which, most often, is a disinfectant;
  3. Base coat (base for gel polish);
  4. Top - topcoat;
  5. Sticky layer remover;
  6. Remover;
  7. One or more colored varnishes.

Such a set can be found both with and without a lamp. However, this is far from all that can come in handy for successful work. In addition to the basic set, you also need to have several files of different rigidity, good manicure scissors or cuticle nippers, a buff for removing the oily layer from the nail, orange sticks or a pusher for processing cuticles, lint-free wipes, as well as orange or any other moisturizing oil cuticles after exposure to ultraviolet rays.

There are ready-made kits for beginners on sale, their composition is described in the video review below.

Decor, stickers and rhinestones, ribbons, foil, clips for removing gel polish and much more that can be found in stores, it is better to buy gradually as needed. All these little things will greatly facilitate the work, however, to purchase them you need a fairly serious investment of finances.

To get started, make sure that doing a manicure yourself is a good idea.

Materials

A master who loves his job is a person with addiction, because he always has few tools, varnishes and other trifles. The must-have list for working with gel polish can be endless, so we will describe only the most important materials and tools that are necessary to create a high-quality manicure.

Degreaser, disinfector, dehydrator

As the name implies, the main task of the degreaser is to remove the greasy layer and all possible contamination from the surface of the nail plate. This procedure is necessary in order to ensure the best adhesion of the varnish to the nail. Almost every degreaser is made on the basis of alcohol, however, a quality product also contains vitamins that will help to heal and improve the condition of nails. In addition, alcohol is also an excellent antiseptic, which will prevent the occurrence of fungi or infection.

Some people confuse a degreaser with a dehydrator, but this is fundamentally wrong. The dehydrator is needed so that the nails dry out as much as possible before applying the base, it is applied after the degreaser. This component is necessary in a salon where the time spent on a client is limited. At home, its presence is not necessary. The degreaser itself evaporates quickly enough, it will take a little longer than with a dehydrator, but the difference will not be too significant.

It is worth paying attention to the shape of the bottle. You can find a bottle with a spray, pump or simple, with an ordinary hole. The most economical form is a bottle with a pump, since it dispenses a small dose of liquid directly onto a napkin, unlike a spray bottle that sprays it in different directions.

Base - Base

Most modern gel polishes that exist today on the market are three-phase varnishes. This means that for their application three layers will be required: base, varnish itself and fixative (top). Any master will say with confidence that if we exclude at least one item from this list, we will receive low-quality manicure, therefore it is important to do everything step by step.

A good foundation is the most important component in the process of applying gel polish. The visual result and the period of wear of the gel polish depend on it. There are several special types of bases, for example, a thicker one, which will help to hide defects on the nails or enriched with vitamins and minerals, which will help nourish the nails. It is worth paying attention to bases with a high content of hydrolyzed keratin. This substance significantly increases the shelf life of manicure unchanged.

The base based on rubber fibers is becoming increasingly popular. Its main difference lies in the fact that it has increased elastic properties, due to which cracking and peeling of the varnish are prevented.

Gel polish

Choosing the perfect gel polish is not an easy task and it is far from the choice of color. Really high-quality gel polish should not only be suitable for many parameters, but also like the master.

The first thing you need to pay attention to is the method of applying varnish. According to this criterion, in the modern market you can find such types of varnishes: three phase, two-phase and single-phase. The fewer steps required for applying varnish, the higher its cost.

  • Single phase varnish perfect for a beginner or self-application at home, because it will significantly save time and effort. The composition of this varnish includes substances from both the base and the top. However, do not count on the effect equal to the effect of a three-phase varnish. This varnish will last on nails much less.

In the catalogs of many famous brands you can find the so-called single-phase varnishes that do not need to be hardened under the lamp. These varnishes are thicker and brighter than ordinary ones, but they can not be called gel polish, since they do not contain polymers.

  • The composition of the two-phase varnish includes the components of the topbut he needs a preliminary application of the base. Such a manicure will last much longer, but incomparably with a manicure with three-phase varnish.
  • Three-phase coating is considered to be the most professional, because it looks much better than others, protects nails from external factors and is worn for a rather long time.

Otherwise, the choice of gel polish is similar to the choice of ordinary nail polish: you need to pay attention to such points:

  1. Quality gel polish should be quite thick, but not viscous;
  2. The structure must be homogeneous., when applying, there should be no unevenness in color, stripes or lumps;
  3. It is worth paying attention to the expiration date. and packaging integrity;
  4. When applied from a brush the bristles should not come out;

Remember! If the gel polish dries on the nails without exposure to ultraviolet radiation - this is a fake.

Top - Topcoat

The topcoat for gel polish has a dual function. Its main task is to fix the color coating and extend the life of the manicure socks, modern tops also play an equally important decorative role.

From a functional point of view, all finish coatings can be divided into two types: top with and without a sticky layer. The only difference is that the top with the sticky layer after completing the polymerization process needs additional processing with a special liquid.

Some tops also include rubber, the main task of which is to strengthen the nail and prevent mechanical damage to the manicure.

Some modern tops have decorative properties. For example, tops with the effect of a matte or supergloss (wet) coating have become very widespread. In addition, magnetic tops have recently gained popularity. Cat's eyewith which you can decorate absolutely any gel polish with an exquisite overflow. You can also meet tops with sparkles or velvet effect.

Sticky liquid

This material usually consists of alcohol, water and perfumes. Most often, to remove the sticky layer, masters use a universal fluid that is suitable for this purpose, and as a degreaser.

For these purposes, any alcohol-containing liquid or alcohol is suitable, but it is better to use professional products.

Coating remover

Removing gel polish by cutting it off is a dangerous, lengthy and often unpleasant process. Therefore, almost every initial set of manicure master includes gel remover. Thanks to her, you can remove the coating in a fairly simple and safe way. It is enough to moisten a cotton pad in this liquid, cover the nail with it, wrap it all over with foil and wait about 15 minutes.

Thanks to this magic liquid, the gel polish will exfoliate itself from the nails, it remains only to carefully remove it with an orange stick or a pusher.

Cuticle oil

After mechanical action on the cuticle, as well as its long stay under the influence of ultraviolet rays, it becomes dry and lifeless. This can cause discomfort and ruin the impression of a fresh manicure. In order to avoid such an unpleasant situation, a means for moisturizing and nourishing the cuticle is necessary. For this purpose, any vegetable little is ideal.

Most often, masters opt for orange, because it has a pleasant aroma and the largest range of nutrients, including vitamin C, carotene, minerals and natural acids, which have an excellent antiseptic effect.

Pastes and paints for painting

There is a huge selection of pastes, gels, gel polishes and paints created specifically for painting nails. Most of them are almost identical in composition to gel polish. They differ in consistency and color saturation. With their help, you can create a unique pattern on the nails. Some varnishes for painting have simply unique properties, for example, are distributed on the nail in such a way as to create the effect of marble. There are special varnishes for painting flowers, as well as thermal varnishes that change color depending on the ambient temperature.

Decor

Today there is simply a colossal selection of decorative elements for manicure: ribbons, rhinestones, sequins, stickers, printers and much more. All these gadgets will help to create a unique design, turn an ordinary manicure into a unique work of art. Most of these products are designed in such a way as to facilitate the work of the master, so it will not be difficult to work independently with them.

Instruments

To make a complete list of existing tools for manicure is not an easy task, because there are several hundred of their types and varieties. We will describe the most necessary, which are included in the standard set of novice mater.

LED or UF lamp

The most expensive and most necessary tool for working with gel polish is a lamp for drying it. It is necessary so that the polymers, which are the basis of all gel polishes, freeze. These substances are not capable of evaporating moisture on their own, therefore it is impossible to dry them without the thermal effect that the ultraviolet light of the lamp exerts.

For the polymerization of varnishes, three types of lamps are suitable - CCFL, Led or UF. All of them produce ultraviolet light, under the influence of which the polymers change at the molecular level and harden. They differ only in the way they produce ultraviolet radiation, in the power and time required for polymerization.

Drying time depends on the radiation power, the more powerful it is - the faster the polymers thicken. Led lamp provides the fastest drying - she copes with this task in 30-60 seconds, while others will need 2-3 minutes. The total duration of stay of the hand in the lamp should not exceed 10 minutes.

It is worth paying attention to additional lamp features, such as a built-in timer.

Scissors and tongs

It is hard to imagine a quality manicure without using scissors and tweezers. A good master in the arsenal has several types of this tool: for nails and for cuticles.

The most important indicator of the reliability and professionalism of the master is the sterility of this tool.

When buying scissors, it is important to pay attention to their shape: they should be conveniently located in the hand, the tips of the blades should be slightly bent - this will help guide them along the cuticle without interrupting the process.

It is very important that the scissors and tongs are always sharpened - this will minimize the possibility of injury.

Pushers

Pusher - This is a tool that looks like a small flat shoulder blade, necessary to prepare the cuticle for cutting. For a long time, metal, double-sided pushers were very popular. On the one hand, they were shaped like a scapula, and on the other, they looked more like a miniature scalpel. Today, this completely convenient invention has supplanted orange stickssharpened in a special way. Such sticks have several important advantages:

  1. They are disposable and do not need sterilization.
  2. They have a thinner end, which greatly facilitates the work and makes it less traumatic and painful.
  3. Such sticks have a fairly low price, do not need sharpening.
  4. They do not rust.
  5. The essential oils contained in the wood of orange have antiseptic properties.

Nail files and buffs

In the arsenal of a good master there are not many files. It is better for a beginner to opt for the forms familiar to him. Choosing the perfect nail file for working with gel polish, it is necessary to clearly distinguish between the functional value.

Nail files with abrasive No. 60 or No. 80 are perfect for correcting the shape of nails, and a coarser nail file with coating No. 100 will be needed to cut off gel polish.

A buff is necessary for polishing nails, as well as for giving a dull manicure by filing it. This tool, as a rule, has a very small and soft abrasive and a rather voluminous shape. When buying a buff, you should pay attention to the rigidity of the abrasive material.

Girls with thin, brittle nails need a buff with a dusting of 500 grit and higher, and for owners of hard, thick nails it is better to opt for a buff with a dusting of 300-500 grit.

Brushes

If a novice mater has “hands growing where necessary”, if he has talent, skill and desire to decorate his nails with painting, he will undoubtedly need high-quality brushes. The first thing you should pay attention to when buying brushes is the material from which they are made. Brushes made of artificial material, as a rule, are made from the finest nylon or acrylic villi. This material is in no way inferior to natural, it is soft and easy to use. Moreover, acrylic brushes will have an almost endless life with normal care. Natural brushes are made from sable wool or squirrel. Such a brush needs more thorough care, its service life is long, but less than that of a synthetic one, and the cost is much higher.

Clips

More recently, plastic clips for removing gel polish have appeared on the market of cosmetic gadgets.This wonderful in form invention may slightly facilitate the process of removing the gel coat from the nails. If earlier it was necessary to wrap a fingernail with a cotton pad dipped in a special liquid, wrap it with foil on top, now everything has become much simpler. It is enough to put a finger with a moistened disc in the clip and wait.

There is a huge selection of colors and designs for this newfangled gadget - this will help bring bright colors to such a daily process, like removing the cover, and inspire new, bright design solutions.

Cotton pads and lint-free napkins

If with cotton pads everything is more or less clear, then the question of the need to purchase lint-free napkins remains relevant. In the process of working with gel polishes, especially during training, it may be necessary to erase the picture from an still sticky coating. At this moment, lint-free napkins will be needed, because after their application there will be no pieces of cotton wool on the unfinished coating.
